Going  Home...

The works on show in this exhibition are from an ongoing series of paintings, that suggest a feeling of isolation whilst also suggesting comfort in the promise of ‘going home’. The half-light of dusk is emphasised in many of these paintings, where the locations remain anonymous. However, at the same time they lean towards the over-familiar as we regularly experience the fleeting landscape from this perspective, as part of the routine of everyday life. These paintings, therefore, tap into a shared common experience, suggesting personal memories and emotions as we journey though our immediate surroundings.

Natalie works from the close examination of the photographic image or extracted film still, derived from the surveillance, documentation and scrutiny of various locations.

The split-second moment captured in time is often accentuated by the composition and framing of the snapshot, whether real or digitally manipulated, questioning the validity and truth of the lens-based image. By using these photographic sources, she elevates the status of the original image (often taken on a mobile phone) by drawing on the considered value and the historic eminence of painting and image production.
